NEW THING TODAY!!!
I just realized that the New York Times posts a word of the day in the context of a recent article and provides a quiz for understanding at the bottom of the page. Please read the snippet of the article, and we'll take the quiz as a class.
Please complete the Titans Brainstorming sheet and either give it to me by the end of class,
or turn it into Google Classroom.
David Bowie was known to many as a "provocateur, weirdo, innovator genius" (Stereo Williams). Though he had a hit with "Space Odyssey" in 1969, it wasn't until he went to New York and created the character of Ziggy Stardust that he became a worldwide sensation and created the genre known today as "glam rock". Under the guise of Ziggy, Bowie became a crossdressing spaceman who wore outlandish costumes and makeup to express the otherworldliness of the songs on "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars". He was creatively restless and was constantly changing his sound. He is responsible for at least two genres, "glam rock" and "plastic soul", and had hits in several more including rock, free jazz, and pop. He also became an actor, starring in Labyrinth, and a fashion icon. His death in 2017 was widely mourned by fans, collaborators, and artists who continue his boundary-pushing ways.
